Renting vs. Buying a Propane Tank

New Propane Tank Purchase

In some parts of the country, purchasing a propane tank is more common than renting one. Typically, a propane tank purchase price will include the piping from the tank to the house as well as all regulators, fittings, gas and other installation related parts. Our team at Texas Propane explains these costs associated with a propane tank purchase prior to the installation. Additionally, we won’t install a tank without filling it with propane.

The following are just a few factors to keep in mind when buying a propane tank:

  • Price variations depending on the size of the propane tank you purchase
  • Discuss warranty on tank, parts and labor prior to purchase
  • Propane prices sometimes differ for customers that own their own tank
  • Selling your home does not burden the next owner with acquiring propane service as the tank is part of the sale

Propane Tank Rental

Leasing a propane tank is an option that our customers have at Texas Propane. However, all piping, fittings, parts and connections are purchased by the customer and can’t be rented.

The following are just a few things to keep in mind when renting a propane tank:

  • Texas Propane maintains and repairs all company owned tanks
  • All propane purchases must be from Texas Propane, as it is a company owned tank
  • We offer scheduled delivery refills for rental tanks
  • Our team pays very close attention to our lease tanks to ensure our customers’ protection and safety
  • Moving to a new home will require you to notify your propane company of your relocation

The differences between renting vs. buying a propane tank ultimately comes down to the maintenance of the tank and responsibility for the repair cost. Contact us with the link below for more information or to schedule your propane tank installation with us today!
